Miracle Baby
INSPIRING HOPE MAGAZINE

When I worked at a pro-life pregnancy center, I experienced many miracles large and small. One of the most amazing miracles I've ever personally witnessed was at this center.
We would perform sonograms on women when they were unsure if they were pregnant or if they had just found out they were pregnant. We didn't perform sonograms on women who believed they were over 3 months pregnant. One day this policy was challenged. One of the volunteers, Trish received a phone call from a young lady who was frantic. Nancy had found out she was pregnant five months earlier. Upon this unwelcomed news she and her ex-boyfriend discussed what they wanted to do. They decided on an abortion since they were no longer together. Nancy's boyfriend moved out of state, and she threw herself into working two jobs.
Five months later Nancy felt she was gaining a little weight and questioned why. On a hunch she bought a pregnancy test. She had been celibate since her last boyfriend and the abortion, but she had a nagging feeling. Nancy just had to take the test to put this thought out of her mind. When she saw the test results, she was credulous. It was positive! Nancy frantically called the abortion clinic. She told them she had an abortion five months ago when she was approximately 2 months pregnant. They had examined her during the follow up visit and reported the abortion had been effective. But now their next available appointment was in four weeks.
Astounded and frightened by the thought of being seven months pregnant after trying to abort, she certainly didn't want to wait four weeks. Nancy called our pregnancy center and asked Trish for a sonogram. When Trish asked me if that were possible, I immediately said YES. Although this was an unusual circumstance the purpose would still be to determine if there was a baby or not. Nancy came right over, and Trish conducted a short intake with her.
As I prepared to perform the sonogram, I chatted with Nancy a bit. She was very nervous. I didn't know what we would see. Maybe it was a false positive. Maybe the baby wasn't alive. How would Nancy respond to a living baby? I was nervous too.
As soon as I put the transducer to her belly, we saw a big baby! The baby seemed to be the right size for seven months gestation. AND the baby was moving all around as if to say, "Hi! I'm here!" I couldn't believe it. I immediately turned to Nancy who had her face covered by both her hands. I cautiously asked her how she felt about this. Nancy declared, "I pray right after the abortion for God to give me my baby back!" She cried. I cried and said, "Well, He did it! Look at that beautiful baby!" What a miracle.
We were able to get Nancy into a special obstetrician the very next day. He did a thorough medical sonogram and declared that he had never seen a more perfect baby. Amazing! Nancy called and told the dad. He flew back and said he had always regretted the abortion too. A very healthy and normal baby Jack was born two months later. Thank you, Jesus!
